60. Mathias Mihalik, born Abt. 1797 in Patsa; died March 8, 1853 in Smolnik, Slovakia¹. He married (1) 61. Evamaria Lovasz May 8, 1820 in Smolnik, Slovakia². She was the daughter of 122. Martinus Lovasz and 123. Margaretha Pauliny.

Notes for Mathias Mihalik:
Mathias Mihalik's origins remain somewhat a mystery. It is likely that he emigrated to Smolnik to look for work in the ore mines. This is substantiated by the fact that I have found no prior evidence of Mihaliks in the birth and marriage registers of the Smolnik RC parish. The Mihalik records begin only with Mathias' marriage to Evamaria Lovasz in May, 1820.
On the marriage record for Mathias Mihalik and Eva Maria Lovasz, Mathias' place of 'origin' is given as Patsa, which is still unlocated. All of the location names in this register are the Hungarian rendition, e.g. Szomolnok for Smolnik, Arany Idka for Zlata Idka, etc., and I have been unable to locate a town named 'Patsa' in any of my other sources. Generally, in the Smolnik register, if a person is from outside the district, the person entering the information would write that in, e.g. 'ex Moravia', etc.
On Mathias' death record, his place of birth is listed as Pacsa. Ten kilometers SSW of Smolnik is the town of Paca, a suburb of Roznava. It is my good fortune that Roznava diocese records are included in the Kosice archives, and I should be able to find all the Mihaliks. Also, per the listings of holdings of the Statny Archiv v Kosiciach, Zakarovce is also part of the Roznava diocese, although it is in a different administrative district (Spis).

3. 30. Casparus Mathias Mihalik, born January 6, 1830 in Smolnik, Slovakia⁶; died July 7, 1893 in Pereczes, Hungary⁷; married 31. Theresia Majdik February 5, 1854 in Smolnik, Slovakia⁸.
4. Joannes Mihalik, born May 23, 1832 in Smolnik, Slovakia⁹; died November 14, 1833 in Smolnik, Slovakia¹⁰.
5. Josephus Mihalik, born March 1, 1835 in Smolnik, Slovakia¹¹; died November 29, 1857 in Smolnik, Slovakia¹².
